A neighborhood dance fair in Barcelona. A recital of sorts for the teacher's dance students and anyone else who wanted to join in. There were younger dancers and prettier dancers but
La Maestra, she was incredible!!!
We're going to step out of the galleries for a moment, into a street of a small village in France. It's early morning and the shopkeepers are getting ready for their day.
This is a painting I did a few years ago and the original sold long ago but it's one I love, partly because the location is the San Francisco Legion of Honor, one of my local favorites. The "painting in the painting" is "The Russian Bride's Attire" (1877 by Konstantin Makovsky), a triumph of beautifully painted textures that I very much admire.
Two young women read the information plaque on a smaller version of Caillebotte's "Floorscrapers", part of a traveling show of his work at the Brooklyn Museum. The larger version is at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. Love those shiny wood floors!
You can see more of the exhibition if you go to: www.brooklynmuseum.org/exibitions/caillebotte
Who of us, even the most dedicated art connoisseur can't sympathize with the young man. The Louvre is a BIG place! Sometimes one just needs a little rest and perhaps a kiss, so tender.
At the Muse d'Orsey it struck me that these young women were all "pretty in pink", the one viewing the painting and the other two in their rosy birthday suits.
Autumn gazes into winter. It was a fall day and my "exchange son's" parents had come to visit from France. His mother was the picture of fashion in warm fall colors. When we went to visit the De Young art museum,I loved the contrast when she stopped to look at this painting of a small country house wrapped in it's winter robe. I added the leaf on the floor as an expression of autumn as well as a compositional devise.
